Preschool teacher Miss Noi and infant teacher Miss Marv are ready to explore the Voorhees jungle.

Although the forecast may still have a day or two of snow on the horizon, in southern New Jersey KinderCare centers it feels like summer. That’s thanks to the creativity of District Manager Monya Vuletic’s team. They gave children – and parents – a sneak peek of this year’s summer camp by decorating their lobbies according to camp themes. Teachers also introduced their students to activities from the camp curriculum, and made sure to document the fun to share with parents at pick-up time.

“We wanted to do this early: This is the time when everyone’s planning their summer,” said Jessica Fisher, director of the Medford Stokes Road KinderCare in Medford. She explained the concept of Sneak Peek Week to her teachers and told them to let their imaginations run wild. Teachers had $20 to spend for supplies, but beyond a supply list and pre-submitted lesson plans neither she, nor her families, had any idea what to expect.

They were blown away. From a jungle to a human-sized board game every day was a new adventure. By the end of the week 22 students signed up (and had already paid for) summer camp. Jessica usually doesn’t see those kinds of numbers until at least April.

Over at the Voorhees KinderCare center Director Melissa Bailey’s families not only enjoyed the sneak peek, some even helped her team decorate the lobby. The fun of Sneak Peek week lives on in a lobby bulletin board full of photos of the week’s events – enticing families to sign up for summer camp.

“You will not find a more imaginative, ingenious, brilliant group of teachers than those at KinderCare,” Monya explained. “By creating a wondrous environment, we are giving children a place to set their mind free: To dream of magical places, of fantastic spaces, and to feel that their world is boundless.”

Starting Monday, KinderCare centers across the country will offer their parents a Summer Sneak Peak by previewing the summer curriculum with new and touring families. Aside from providing children with a safe and fun place to learn throughout the summer, KinderCare’s summer programs help prevent learning loss.
